Wix AI Chatbot: Add a Shopping Agent

How do you add a Wix AI chatbot that can sell? Place the script in Custom Code, connect your product feed and test answers before going live.

Yes, you can add a Wix AI chatbot through Custom Code on a published site with a connected domain. Add the agent’s script at the body end, connect your catalogue and store policies, then test it on your storefront.

shoppa is an AI shopping agent that helps your customers find, compare and buy products in the chat, using your catalogue and documents. You can use its native Wix app or install the two-line embed. The instructions below cover the Custom Code route. For stores running several storefronts, use the platform integration guides for each site.

Wix Chat and AI Chatbot Options

Wix Chat lets you and your team reply to customers manually, while Wix Smart Chat combines manual replies with AI answers. Wix’s Help Centre identifies Smart Chat as the replacement for Wix AI Site Chat. Its AI answers use your site content and the training you add in the dashboard.

Use manual chat when a member of staff needs to handle each conversation. Wix Smart Chat adds automatic answers and product guidance within Wix’s own chat system. An external shopping agent adds value when you want customers to discover products and complete purchases in the same conversation.

With shoppa, customers can refine a request across messages and compare products from your range. The same chat handles payment and after-sale order support. For a smaller team deciding which questions to automate, see how small businesses use chatbots.

What You Need Before You Start

The Custom Code route needs a paid Wix Premium or Studio site plan, a connected domain and a published site. Wix’s embedding instructions require the published site and connected domain. A free Wix site address doesn’t meet that domain requirement.

The site owner can add the code. An Admin (Co-Owner) has access to manage site settings, so they can handle the installation once the owner has connected the domain. Give any other collaborator access to the relevant settings before assigning the task. Store-product access alone is a different permission from managing site settings.

Have your store-specific embed ready, along with the catalogue connection and your shipping and returns information. In shoppa’s workspace, set the agent’s name, colours and welcome message before placing it on the site. The catalogue-to-agent process explains the parts that apply across platforms.

Adding the Script Through Custom Code

Add the complete two-line embed to Wix’s Custom Code settings and load it once per visit on all pages.

  1. Open your site’s dashboard and go to Settings.
  2. Under Development & integrations, open Custom Code.
  3. Select + Add Custom Code and paste the two-line script supplied for your store.
  4. Give the snippet a recognisable name, such as “Shopping agent”.
  5. Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages. Select the option to load the code once per visit.
  6. Under Place Code in, choose Body - end, then select Apply.
  7. Open the published site on its connected domain and check that the agent appears.

Keep both script lines together and in their supplied order. The first loads the widget and the second starts it for your store. Don’t add a second copy if an app has already installed the same widget.

All pages includes new pages you add later. Loading once per visit lets the widget start without running the same installation again on every page change. Test navigation from the homepage to a product page as well as a direct visit to the product page.

Feeding Your Products and Policies to the Agent

The Wix ecommerce integration supplies product information to the agent, while your store documents supply the rules for answers about shipping and returns. The storefront script displays the chat panel. Adding that script alone doesn’t import the catalogue.

Connect the Wix Stores catalogue so the agent can use product names, prices, variants and stock. Preserve size and colour choices as distinct variants, with availability attached to the correct choice. Product links must lead to the matching Wix product page.

In the agent console, review the imported products and add the shipping and returns content from your store’s policy pages. Set the delivery regions and return conditions the agent needs to explain. Keep those documents consistent with the wording customers see on your site.

shoppa’s workspace has a catalogue preview, catalogue sync and a private test agent. You control the knowledge documents and agent settings there. Test a product with several variants so a price or stock figure for one choice isn’t presented as applying to every choice.

For example, a customer asking for a blue jacket in medium needs the availability of that exact variant. A general description saying the jacket comes in blue is insufficient to answer the stock question. After changing a product in Wix, repeat the question against the agent’s catalogue.

Limits on Wix

A Custom Code installation adds the agent to the web storefront, including its mobile-browser version. It doesn’t add that script to Wix member apps such as Spaces by Wix. Wix’s member-app documentation states that those apps don’t support custom code.

Cart behaviour depends on the shopping integration behind the widget. A product-link assistant sends customers to the Wix product page to select a variant and add it to the cart. A script installation alone doesn’t establish that the assistant can change the Wix Stores cart.

shoppa supports product discovery and buying in the chat through its shopping integration. Treat the widget installation and the store connection as separate setup tasks. Follow the purchase through to the resulting order during acceptance checks, including the selected variant and quantity.

Two visible chat buttons can compete for the same corner of the screen. If you keep Wix Chat alongside the shopping agent, give each a clear purpose and position them separately. On a phone, also check the space occupied by cookie notices and sticky shopping controls.

Checks After Installing

Check the agent on the published Wix site, using a desktop browser and a phone. The completed installation must answer from the connected catalogue and policies while leaving the store’s shopping controls usable.

  • Ask for a named product. Match its price and product link to the Wix product page.
  • Ask for a specific size or colour. Check that the answer uses that variant’s stock status.
  • Ask a shipping question, such as whether your store delivers to a regional postcode. Compare the answer with your shipping policy.
  • Ask how to return an item. Check the conditions against your returns page.
  • Navigate between pages and refresh the site. Confirm that the widget remains usable and doesn’t appear twice.
  • Open the chat on a phone. Check the message input, close button and product links with the keyboard open.
  • If Wix Chat remains installed, open each panel separately and check that neither button covers the other.
  • Follow the purchase route. Confirm the product, variant and quantity stay correct through the cart or in-chat checkout.

Fix the catalogue or policy source when an answer uses the wrong information. Adjust the widget position when it blocks a store control. Keep the agent visible only when customers can ask questions and complete the intended shopping route.
