Customer Service Software Pricing Explained

Helpdesk and chat bills grow with seats, resolutions and add-ons. See how Intercom, Gorgias and Tidio charge an online store before your next renewal.

Customer service software pricing combines subscriptions with charges for staff seats, resolved issues, tickets or conversation allowances. Some AI services charge by session or token. Use the vendor guides below to see which units your store pays for and how extra usage changes the bill.

Pricing Models in Customer Service Software

The billing unit determines how a sale-period spike affects your software costs. Consider a hypothetical store whose chat volume doubles while its support team stays the same size.

Pricing modelWhat you pay forWhen chat volume doubles
Per seatEach staff member with paid accessThe seat bill stays the same if you keep the same seats. Separate usage charges can still grow.
Per resolutionAn issue the AI resolves, under the vendor’s billing definitionIf billable resolutions double, that charge doubles at the same unit rate. A handover can count under some definitions.
Per ticketA billable support ticket, often within a plan allowanceTwice as many billable tickets can exceed your allowance and trigger overages or a larger plan.
Per conversation or message creditCounted customer conversations or messagesMore conversations consume the allowance sooner. Longer chats can also use more message credits.
Per session or tokenA chat session or the text units the AI processesTwice as many billable sessions doubles session usage. Token costs also depend on the length of questions, answers and context.

A doubled chat count doesn’t automatically double the whole bill. A fixed subscription can stay unchanged while its usage component grows. Included allowances, minimum commitments and volume tiers affect the final amount.

Count each billable unit separately when you estimate a busy period. A customer asking several questions can be one conversation, while message-based billing counts the messages within it. Add channel charges and optional features to the subscription before comparing totals.

Choose a Vendor Pricing Guide

Intercom’s pricing combines paid teammate seats with Fin outcome charges. An outcome can include a completed workflow or handover, so its definition extends beyond a customer-confirmed resolution. Some messaging channels have separate usage charges.

Gorgias bases its helpdesk plans on ticket volume and charges for conversations its AI Agent resolves. Voice and SMS add-ons depend on usage.

Tidio has allowances for billable human conversations and separate Lyro AI conversations. Its Flows automation uses an allowance for visitors reached. Choose the guide for the product you use to see the plan figures and how its allowances work.

Each vendor guide covers its pricing model, plan figures and extra charges. For a wider implementation budget, use the AI chatbot cost guide. If your renewal also involves changing software, compare helpdesks for ecommerce stores.
